Its no secret that I totally love making Disney cocktails, and since it’s Halloween today I thought it appropriate to showcase volume three in my series starring Jafar. I started these cocktails a while back and then got so busy that I just didn’t have time to follow through. I have now made it my mission to finish this cocktail series at least with all the original villains and then move on to our heroes.

At the beginning of the year I found the cutest copper mug that reminded me a lot of Jafar. I think it was because of the little feet on the mug, they just screamed “Aladdin” to me. I got one just for this cocktail and then really wanted to create a flavor that matched the personality of Jafar. I did some research and there’s actually a mediterranean Moscow mule that has figs, limoncello and ginger beer. So I took that as a base for my concoction and gave it my own spin.
I decided to use fresh ginger additionally to the ginger beer and remove the limoncello from the original recipe. In order to give it more of a spicy kick, I really wanted that ginger taste to come through. I feel like Jafar is very sassy and so I wanted the flavor to reflect that with an extra kick. So after a lot of testing in my kitchen I found the perfect fig to ginger ratio that made for a very flavorful fall cocktail.

Disney Cocktail: Jafar’s Royal Vizier Ginger Fig Mule
This recipe is fall inspired and perfect for any Halloween bash. I tried to source black figs but I missed the season by one week, so I ended up purchasing some turkey figs at Whole Foods that were from the bottom of the barrel. If you can get black figs, do it, as turkey figs have a more mild flavor and a bit less sweet. Depending on how much of a kick you want, you can add less of the grated ginger. Oh and don’t forget to pair it with some As-IAGO cheese 😉

If you’re feeling fancy, I made some ice cubes with lime wedges and some sliced figs. I really liked the overall effect it gave the cocktail. Simply freeze some water with any garnish you like and plop them in the freezer.
I like to add a touch of the character to the styling of a cocktail. I added a light up “ice cube” in the shape of a poisoned apple to the Evil Queen’s Martini, a llama sticker to a test tube “vial” for Yzma’s Shot and really was racking my brain as to what could make this copper mug seem like Jafar. I don’t like to be too on the nose and dress it up like a kid on Halloween or even add a cut out image of the character to the photography. I love to have a minimal representation of these characters, you can blame my designer heart for that one.
I noticed Jafars hat had a red feather sticking out of it and so I thought that would be a good identifier without having to create the snake staff or add a cape to the mug.

Finally we have the poster! Since this cocktail series began as more of a design thing and evolved into styled photography. It was a bit hard to illustrate a copper mug to fit into the style of the other posters, but with the help of my professional illustrator friend, I managed to get the perspective just right. I even copied the feather shape directly from Jafar so its more legit.
